Disabilities in the US
How would you feel if you knew that in the United States, you have a nearly 1 in 2 chance of having a disability after the age of 65? A new federal report analyzing data from the US Census between 2008 and 2012 revealed that 40% of senior citizens in the US today have a disability, and 15% have three or more. The disabilities range from severe hearing loss to impaired motor skills and cognitive function. While these statistics may sound daunting, the good news is that disabilities of this nature can be offset and prevented in a number of ways, including advanced medical technology and positive behavioral changes.
To aid in these positive behavioral changes, PlayAbility offers therapy products that can improve the cognitive function and motor skills of aging adults. Our 14” Rib-it-ball is a perfect therapy tool for elders facing these problems because it helps to keep the user’s mind active: its high contrasting colors stimulate vision, its crinkly ribs enhance tactile stimulation, and its easy-to-grab ribs help promote fine and gross motor skills. It is light weight and easy to hold on to for even the wheel chair bound and those with a weak grasp. While living with a disability can severely impact the lives of those who must face them every day, we are proud to offer products that aid in improving the quality of life for our aging population.
